Centrepiece by Uta Studio
Carved from a single block of oak wood, this sculptural centrepiece belongs to the Urushicum series by Uta Studio, the Brussels-based workshop of Brazilian artist and designer Bruno Caetano.
In this series, Caetano explores the meeting point between Japanese Urushi lacquer techniques and the natural dye practices of Amazonian tribes using Urucum. Each piece is the result of a patient, layered process that combines tradition, experimentation, and the physical understanding of material gained through his background as a performer.
This bowl reveals an intricate, hand-textured surface inspired by organic patterns. The deep black and amber tones are achieved through a mix of Japanese ink, beeswax, and controlled burning, giving the piece both depth and tactility. The raised inner form adds balance and movement, turning a simple vessel into a work of sculptural presence.
Both functional and contemplative, it reflects Uta Studio’s commitment to craftsmanship, material honesty, and emotional resonance in design.
Size: 44 cm x 31 cm x 7 cm
Condition: Each piece is handmade and unique, showing slight variations in shape, tone, and surface finish that are inherent to the making process.
