This ceramic vase was created by the Spanish ceramist Domingo Punter in 1947. Punter was active in Teruel, a city in Aragón with a strong tradition of pottery dating back to the Middle Ages, when Mudejar craftsmen developed the distinctive blue-and-white ceramics that became emblematic of the region. His work carries this lineage into the twentieth century, combining historic references with a bold modern presence.
The vase stands out for its sculptural form, with three handles placed at different heights, giving it both balance and movement. Painted in deep cobalt blue on a cream ground, it features peacocks among floral motifs, symbols of beauty, immortality and renewal that have been used in ceramic decoration for centuries. The composition is fluid and rhythmic, with the long tail feathers of the birds echoing the surrounding foliage.
Condition: The surface shows the fine craquelure typical of mid-century Spanish pottery, adding texture and depth to the glaze. The base is signed and dated “Punter 47.” Condition is very good, with only minor chips at the base, not distracting from its presentation.
